Acceptance of Application.
All applications for membership shall be considered by the Executive and acceptance of any application shall be at the discretion of the Executive.
When an application has been accepted, Membership shall not take effect until the prescribed annual membership fee has been received by the Treasurer of the Trust.
Payment of Membership Fee
Upon payment of the prescribed membership fee (and the following terms and conditions shall apply to a renewal of annual membership in the same manner as to a new application for membership), a Member shall be deemed to have accepted the following conditions and agrees to be bound by these conditions during any period of membership.
Obligations and Privileges of Membership
A) Friend of the Engine :
Entitled to access to the public parts of the Museum on those days on which the Museum is open to the general public but may not enter areas not open to the general public (unless accompanied by and at the invitation of a Working member).
Entitled to participate in other social activities which from time to time may be organized by the Trust.
Entitled to attend and vote at the Members' meetings of the Prickwillow Engine Trust, including the Annual General Meeting.
Entitled to stand for election and serve as an Officer of the Trust or as member of the elected Executive.
B) Working Member :
Enjoys the same privileges and rights as a Friend of the Engine as listed above.
Agrees to participate as a volunteer in the maintenance and/or operation of the Museum in such capacity as shall be appropriate in relation to skills and ability.
Agrees to undertake only those tasks for which the necessary skills are possessed and only with the prior knowledge and agreement of the appointed Project Leader.
Health & Safety:
Undertakes to comply with all safety notices issued by the Executive and to act responsibly and safely at all times whilst engaged in voluntary work for the Trust, observing the duty of care towards fellow Members and the public in general.
Conduct:
Undertakes to behave in an honest, reasonable and socially acceptable manner towards other Members and not to act in a manner likely to give rise to offence.
Termination of Membership.
Any Member who may have conducted themselves in a manner considered inappropriate or which has given rise to a complaint (whether from another Member or a member of the public) may have their membership terminated. The Executive will consider evidence and the Member will be entitled to be appear before the Executive to answer the complaint.
A Member whose membership is terminated shall not be entitled to a refund of membership fee or any proportion thereof.
Terms and Conditions of Membership
Definitions:
In these conditions, the following terms shall have the following meanings.
'The Trust' is the Prickwillow Engine Trust, an unincorporated association and registered charity number 285139.
'The Museum' is the premises known as the Prickwillow Drainage Engine Museum, Main Street, Prickwillow, Ely, Cambridgeshire.
'Constitution' refers to the governing document of the Trust as revised in 1995.
'The Executive' is the Executive Committee, being the elected board of management of the Trust.
'Friend of the Engine' is a member of the Trust who does not participate in voluntary work at the Museum.
'Working Member' is a member of the Trust who undertakes voluntary work on behalf of the Trust, both on and off the premises of the Museum.
'Member' shall mean both categories of member (Friend of the Engine and Working Member).
'Minor' is a person below the age of 16 years.
Preliminary Note : Nothing in these conditions shall override or invalidate the terms of the Constitution and in circumstances where ambiguity or uncertainty shall arise, the terms of the Constitution shall take precedence over these conditions.
Qualifying Conditions for Application for Membership (Friend of the Engine)
Membership is open to all ages but a minor shall only be accepted for membership when application is made jointly with that of a parent or guardian.
Qualifying Conditions for Application for Membership (Working Member)
i) Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
ii) Persons under the age of 16 years may be accepted for membership, if the application is made by a parent or guardian, but acceptance shall be at the discretion of the Executive and special terms or restrictions may be imposed for reasons of personal safety.
